Campaigns

Since the campaign series has now reached it’s 30th Birthday I’d like to share with you as much as I’ve been able to reconstruct of the prior games in the series. The Past Campaigns pull down menu at the top of the page will allow you to access all the campaign data and wikis on Obsidian Portal, the best place to organize your game data. Of course I’m prejudiced, I’m a moderator -Loki

According to the lies they tell when bubbed, the Seven Stars gained possession of Stray Manor from the Lady herself. Obviously they were addlepated during that ruckus months back, they all have the overconvinced glare of the barmy about them. What ruckus? The one where some bubbers and clueless swore they saw an actual Power in Sigil, when it was actually just some vicious arcane storms. Everybody knows Powers cannot enter The Cage, especially third rate Powers like Vecna…-Silvar the Bowseller, Market Ward

PCs: The Misfits

The Misfits

hellbred ViolettaVioletta, The Masked Bard (Prime, Helbred F, Bard/Wilder): Found on the streets of Dragon Rock and taken in by one of Lucille’s Girls she has been building a rep as a budding virtuoso. She has teamed up with the others while she tries to discover who she was prior to being reborn as a Helbred.
Casimir Syzygy of Liera (aka Henri Darger) (Prime, Human M, Aristocrat/Rogue): Black sheep son of one of the families that own Dragon Rock, he resided in a rented room in Lucille’s House prior to moving in, with his team, at Vanderboren Manor. Taking everythng in sride as long as there is fine wine and excellent cheese (and trollops, you can’t forget the trollops!). The Voidskimmer (a living smalljammer ship) is his recent inheritance from his deceased Uncle Ruprect.
LemmyLemmy Sorpic of Carrigmoor, Son of Mercy (Prime, Human M, Psychic Warrior): A former Sorpic Guard in Carigmoor he resigned his commission when offered a place in the Mercykillers. On active duty in Sigil during the Faction War he joined the Sons of Mercy when the Mercykiller split. Now on detached duty for Arwl Swansson on the Prime Material Plane guarding Violetta and attempting to be a good influence on her.
MoswenMoswen Nathandem called “Men Maat Horus” (Eternal is the Justice of Horus) (Prime, Celestial Blooded Human/Mulan F, Warlock): Vanthus Vanderboren’s volatile ex-girlfriend, on a quest to end his life and remove the curse he had placed upon her. “She shall love no man,” is the curse. She tracked down the party and demanded to join them since they are also looking for Vathus and they would have better odds working together. It seems her Warlock’s eldritch blast energy is what sends the Voidskimmer’s organic helm into overdrive alowing them to planejamm.
Khlasath Git’r’raith (Planar, Githyanki M, Fighter/Rogue) An Athar from Sigil doing his best to make a living and not get caught by the Lich Queen’s agents. Extraordinarily talented with the bladed chain. Not fond of the Astral. He has been Larren’s adventuring partner for the past five years. Currently he is eeking info on the Pirates of Gith, a little known offshoot of the Gith race that stayed on the Prime Material when the Githyanki and Githzerai had their falling out.
Larren (Planar, Elan M, Ardent): A Cipher from Sigil. Able to tap into the unconscious knowledge of the universe and able to deal with both magic and psionics as though they were the same this odd Ardent is a veritable font of data he should have no way of knowing. Khlasath’s adventuring partner for the past five years.
FORMER COMRADES
HissarmauHissarmau of the Ta’an-mrrow (Prime, Catfolk F, Monk/Wizard): Raised by a Shou wizards who found her after Barbarians has killed her pride, she now roams the stars after being released from his service. Having befriended Lemmy upon his arrival at Dragon Rock she has attached herself to the crew proving her value through speed and her special blend of unarmed combat blended with arcane magic.
THE FALLEN
Xring Ke Kadu (Prime, Xixchil F, Wizard/Eidolancer): Cast from the nest upon attaining maturity she has begun studying The Art. After meeting Hissarmau through their mutual involvement in the lower level of the Seekers. Still rather wide eyed at the adventuring life she has basically claimed the group as her new hive. While piloting the Voidskimmer in a rescue attempt on the Yggdrasil she suffered and extreme form of spelljammer shock. Thinking it might help, Moswen placed her body on the helm hoping for some positive effect. Instead the bug’s spirit was jolted off of its journey to the afterlife, materializing as an incorporeal ghost. Death not being the handicap she expected she continues to accompany the group. Deceased
Ibid of Mulhorrand, 4th Order Priest of Ptah (Prime, Seacliff Dwarf M, Cleric of Ptah): Raised in slavery in Mulhorrand he was purchased and free by a spacefaring priest of Ptah who saw “divine spark” in him. Brought in by Lavinia Vanderboren to provide assistance to the group as part of a debt owed her family by the Temple of Ptah. Adventured with the group until their ill fated misadventure in the Astral running across Illithids of Thoon. Shortly after being rescued by the group, while the majority of them were engaged in combat on Crosswinds Keep, he took the helm and tied to take the Voidskimmer. Klasath, the githyanki Athar, tried to stop him only to have an octopoid entity spring from the back of the Dwarf’s head to attack him. It is assumed that Ibid was actually long dead before Klasath decapitated him.

Then Came the Gap.

Like many who have not recognized their addiction I “quit gaming.” Then in 2002 I decided to run a new Spelljammer game. This brings us to theSeven Stars Campaign which was interrupted at 15th Level by Hurricane Katrina and the subsequent failure of the New Orleans Levee System. The group was scattered, and for a long time after returning to NOLA no one had time for games. Finally early May of 2007 saw the birth of the latest in the series, Planejammer: The Misfits!

Fergus MacFergus makes the mistake of following one of the wee folk into a mushroom (don’t ask) in his native Ireland (800 AD, Alternate Earth- Celts Sourcebook) to end up with them. The party then meets an Arcane named Nephroon who sells them a Spelljamming Helm, making the jump to Wildspace. As adventures bring them into the near fringes of Wildspace they join up with Jarix, the be-bop insect who joins up as their war mage. Soon after they rescue Dartalon Rix from a nightmarish world where the Sun never rises and most of the population suffer lycanthropy. They begin operating as freelance adventurers based on the Rock of Bral (at that time in Realmspace).

Securing a Letter of Marque from Prince Andru they begin acting as privateers, particularly pursuing Cain and his ship, The Rampage (Skulls and Crossbows SJA2). Shortly afterwards they are approached by the mysterious Draax and hired out for numerous incidental and exploratory missions. They are given the Battle Dolphin ship and retainer and payment (leaving them owing Draax and Co. quite a bit. As time progresses they meet the entire original campaign company who have now become the conspirators and DemiGods behind the scenes. They also befriend the Space Lich Terigamar who lives on his Dragonfly ship in the Phlogiston doing research into the nature of space. Capturing numerous pirates (Tal Gilgalad, etc.) and these missions for Drego and Draax keep them occupied until they get mixed up in House Shambrath’s problems……

Bruin Shambrath then arrives to hire the PCs to help him defeat T’Laan, a vampire who has staged a takeover of his home sphere, Greatspace (Crystal Spheres SJA3). The next few years are spent in a multisphere quest during which they reignite the extinguished sun of Greatspace gaining the name “The Lightbringers.” Fergus, Dartalon, Acme, and Jarix being made Dukes and Knights of the First Circle (Thesalys, Greatspace). They are gifted with The Hummingbird ship and both that and the Battle Dolphin are granted unattached status in the Greatspace Navy listed as Lightbringer Privateers.

The Early Games: 1981 - 1992

 The Early Games

Planejammer is a campaign series begun in 1981 which has lasted through 26+ years of campaigns, each building on the foundation of the one before. This game utilizes the Spelljammer rules and Planescape rules to create a coherent Macroverse with a dazzling array of Alternate Primes.

Kzinti- From Ringworld to Ours

One major difference between our Greyhawk and the one published by TSR was the inclusion of the Kzinti as a monster race. When Dragon Magazine #50 hit the shelves containing within a D&D conversion of Larry Niven’s kzinti we immediately adopted it. The kzinti have continued to have a presence on Oerth, primarily around the Vesve Forest and near the border of the Empire of Iuz (for whom they often work as mercenaries) and Furyondy. They have, in recent decades, mostly migrated to Wildspace and have begun a racial quest to find a homeworld of their own, from which to win an empire.

Over the generations since they were translated to this dimension, the kzinti have overcome their resistance to magic. Priests of the One Fanged God now can cast spells, and there is even the occasional (very) rare kzinti sorcerer. They are never wizards.. Kzinti tend to produce Psions, Mindblades, and Psychic Warriors far more often than spellcasters. The Ishan philosophy has recently risen amongst the Wildspace Kzinti.

AD&D 1st Edition -Slavelords, Gamma World, Tsojcanth and Drow, 1981-1985

Drego Elven Wizard, CN
Draax Half Elf Thief / Psionic, CN
Baleron Silvertongue Half Elf Bard CG
Tanth Kirkeen Human Monk, LN
Erika Human Paladin, LG

In the bad old days of Greyhawk the party (except for Erika) started adventuring together and got into and out of some serious trouble. In the old TSR module series their adventures spaned the entire Assault on the Aerie of the Slavelords series Interspersed with our own storylines. Once the Slavelords were defeated they were dropped into the Alternity known as Gamma World (TSR’s Post Apocalyptic RPG) where they had to join forces with the native mutants in order to capture a “dimension portal,” from an insane computer.

Their return to Oerth placed them in the right place to gain clues on the location of the Lost Caverns of Tsojcanth (TSR module S4), but requiring that they bring along a Paladin named Erika. During the course of the dungeon crawl both Tanth (the Monk) and Erika consumed potions of delusion, they both rolled the effect of Philtre of Love, and both failed all saving throws needed, making it’s effect permanent . Of course, with Tanth’s choice in partners this made life much more interesting. They finished the adventure fairly torn up, but successful. After a year of provisioning and hiring of an extensive dwarven workforce they returned to the Caverns and cleaned them out, turning the complex into their base of operations from there on out.

The presence of drow was sudden and surprising, one of them infiltrated the Caverns. Drego was alone in the complex, deep at work in his laboratory/summoning room. The assassin almost killed him before Draax was able to teleport in with Baleron and save him. The Intrepid fivesome followed clues leading them through the Frost Giant Series but got pounded and ran home after only shallow penetration of the Vault of the Drow. The next few years were spent in fortifying their defenses, Erika becoming more and more concerned as Drego’s alignment shifted from CN to NE. There were many occasions of the two of them coming to blows as their ideologies drifted further apart.

The party was witness to the last days on the Prime Material Plane of Strahd VonZarovich, and in fact were the ones who drove him from this plane. (The Original Ravenloft Module). It is around this time that Drego began to claim Demonic Ancestry. Tanth and Erika move out of the Complex and take up residence in Arabel. Draax remains to keep an eye on his friend, but is obviously concerned.

AD&D 2nd Edition -Dragonlance, Thieve’s World, Boot Hill, Greyhawk, 1986

Talis Nimbletoes Kender Thief , CN
Sammael Dwarven Priest, LN
Seethe Blackwand Human Thief, CG
Garic Swivvens Human Fighter, LN
Teleron Elven Ranger, CG

With Dragonlance just released it seemed a good idea to try out the new world of Krynn. Following the first story arc of modules we were able to usher in a new age of magic and Dragons for our world. Then we walked through the wrong mirror and ended up in Sanctuary (Chaosium’s Thieves World Box Set) and learned just how nasty a game could get with hardly any actual combat. Several unpleasant commission jobs later we were able to secure a cubic gate. The first Alternate Prime it took us to was the Old West (TSR’s Boot Hill Rules/ Adventure from an early Dragon Magazine as I recall) where we helped some cowboys and a displaced Mage from our world eliminate a T. Rex that had taken up residence in a canyon near Tombstone. The Mage was named Murlynd and he offered to take us home to our own world, the only problem was he thought we were from Oerth. Making a fortune by selling off the cubic gate and our stories (which we were well paid by Tenser for) the party settled on the coast.

AD&D 2nd Edition / Gamma World- Alternate Realities, 1987-1988

Tara Leafsong Elven Ranger, CG
Armitage Half Elf Mage, NG
Arach The Knob Human Fighter, N
Twyla Elven Thief, N (Acrobat Kit)
Fr. Galen Human Priest, CG (St. Cuthbert of the Cudgel)

This campaign was unique in having a complete change of game system midstream. The characters started off in our own customized version of Greyhawk where they went after an attempted resurgence of the Slavelords by their third generation after the original party supposedly wiped them out. During a face off with the leaders they managed to destroy an artifact the slavers were using in a retributive strike (remember them?) by breaking a Rod of Lordly Might over it which caused a dimensional swap. The rest of the game was played out in Gamma World. The characters were converted to mutants who had powers similar to the spells and abilities of the characters in AD&D, and the storyline was paralleled as well with Pure Strain Humans enslaving Mutants. The campaign played on until it’s conclusion in that system.
