Gamers on Google+ : Keepers of the Flame (Classic Settings)
Over the history of Dungeons and Dragons there have been many Campaign Settings introduced. I remember the deluge of boxed sets that hit the market in my high school and college years – Ravenloft, Planescape, Spelljammer, box after box of Greyhawk or Forgotten Realms materials – each one presenting another new world to play in.
Many of these settings have not been supported by the company for years, but were handed over to the custodianship of the fans. With special permission from WotC there is a website for each of these and development continues, driven by the community. I know, I’ve helped manage one of them for seven years.
With Google+ exploding onto the digital landscape I thought a list of those using it who have acted as Keepers of the Flame for their settings would be a good resource. The result is this list (one which I will keep adding to as more of us make it onto Google+). I hope you find it useful! (If you know of someone I missed please leave a comment so I can add them.)

The ENnies and Katrina: A Ray of Light in the Darkness

Lower 9th Ward by Charlotte Diem, used with permission.
You can blame @JediSoth for and @ExaltedDarkness on Twitter for this post. They thought it should be shared.
Six years ago the ENnies had completely dropped off my radar. I had spent months in rallying support for Planewalker.com as we made our bid and apprehensively crossed our fingers. Then Hurricane Katrina struck and the levees failed shortly thereafter. Like all New Orleanians I had far more pressing matters on my mind than any award, no matter how coveted and prestigious.
My wife, then fiancee, and I were in exile and without resources. With little more than our five cats and a laptop we were forced to bounce from one borrowed roof to another, finally alighting in Dobbs ferry, NY just North of Yonkers. To keep things from being too simple we not only did not have a car but we also had just spent all our resources on the looming wedding and honeymoon. I had a lot of stubborn Creole French pride to swallow as we had nothing to work with.
In addition we knew nothing about the state of any friends or family. The entire 504 area code was down as people everywhere tried to contact loved ones. It was two and half weeks before I even knew the whereabouts of some family and friends. I have not been through anything as grim. It was like being a 5th level PC facing a CR 25 threat, completely overwhelming.
This is where the ENnies come in. You see I got an email from Clueless, one of the other managers. Planewalker had just won it’s first Silver ENnie. In the grand scheme of the disaster it meant nothing. As the first slender ray of sunshine in the dark it was invaluable. At a time when it felt like everything was collapsing around me that moment of recognition for our team was a bit of a lifeline. It was, I believe, the first time I was able to smile after watching the city streets I grew up on submerged.
So, I would like to raise a toast to the ENnies team this year. It is only fair that you know how very much your hard work has meant in the past, and in a way you could never have conceived. Thanks, all of you. I wish I could make ti to GenCon to say it myself.
Planar Ecology: The Slaadi
In which the gentleman in question (in the guise of Factor Evensong of the Dustmen) regales you with stories of the Slaadi, or Slaad, the froglike humanoids from the chaotic plane of Limbo.
The NEW Planewalker!
As may of you are aware I’m one of the managers for Planewalker, The Official Planescape website, and as such I’m proud to make an announcement.
Yesterday was the soft launch of a newly reconfigured version of the website, one we hope will make it both easier to navigate and and more social media enabled. Clueless, as usual, did the heavy lifting with Drupal to bring us the new, improved version of the site so hats off to our resident Code Dabus!
Please check it out and let us know what you think, you can contact us through Facebook, Flickr, Twitter, the Planewalker Forums, or by email. Details here.

Planejammer- The Spelljoined Campaign of the Month on Obsidian Portal April 2011
Today we bring to you guys, a truly awesome showcase of campaign depth and intricacy. The very dedicated and friendly DungeonMasterLoki shares with us a bit about his game, his players and gives us some sound advice. The Spelljoined campaign has been going on since before some of us were born! So ‘ave a seat cutter, and stop rattlin’ your bone box for a just minute and park your ears right here!
So begins the blog post which announces our status as the feature Campaign for the entire month of April on Obsidian Portal! I can’t thank our contributing players, artists, and writers of crunch enough. You are all brilliant!
So rest assured that there is still a lot to go up on the Campaign wiki, we’re talking 30 years of setting development here. I’m slowly getting The Seven Stars and The Misfits formatted and online.
Additionally, all of the campaign journals, rules and such are undergoing a full migration to Obsidian Portal. This website will be transitioning to general RPG news and updates on the forthcoming line of pdf supplements we are working in for Pathfinder.
So here they are, the last three campaigns of the Planejammer series in various states of construction:
The Spelljoined (current) | The Misfits | The Seven Stars
We love feedback and comments!
